25MB
OF FREE WEB SPACE - BUILD YOUR OWN HTML WEB SITE
We offer you 25MB of web space completely free of charge.
To setup your webspace you will need to have registered for a free Aardvaak
account and then click the Admin button to access the SelfCare pages. Sign in
with your account details (email address and password).
Step 1 - add WebSpace to your account
You can add webspace very easily. When logged into SelfCare click on the SERVICES
button. Then click on your Email Address under Primary Account.
Then click on SETUP WEBSPACE and choose a Webspace Password and
a Webspace Directory. This password will be used when you FTP files to your Webspace
and the directory name will form part of the Web Address or URL of your webspace.
You will then be taken back to the Main Menu and within a couple of minutes you
will receive an email providing you with all of the details of your Webspace and
FTP account.
Step 2 - upload your files
FTP is the method of transferring your files from your computer to the Web Server
and you need some software to do this. We recommend either WS-FTP
or CuteFTP (click
the names to access the sites to download). You will need to tell the FTP software
where to upload your files to, so start by giving it a memorable name such as
Aardvaak WebSpace. The FTP Servername is ftp.smartemail.co.uk. Your username will
be your primary email address @smartemail.co.uk and your password is the one you
chose above. You don't need to add anything in the directory box but you need
to specify the name of the FTP Server which is ftp.smartemail.co.uk. Then click
to connect and you can start uploading.
Remember that the first page that you want people to see must be called either
index.htm or index.html.
Step 3 - check your web site
When you have uploaded your site you can open a Web Browser and enter your web
address - all webspace starts with http://www.{username}.smartemail.co.uk/ where
{username} is the name you selected in step 1. For example
http://www.example.smartemail.co.uk
Assuming your first page was called index.htm or index.html then it will appear
in the Browser.

Remember, when you have built your web site we recommend that
you submit it to the Search Engines. We use and thoroughly recommend PagePromoter
(well it works for us!)
